Marilyn Benson, a cherished cornerstone of her family and community, passed away on July 29, 2025, at the age of 84 in her hometown of Vincennes, Indiana.
Born on November 8, 1940, in Vincennes, to parents John and Marion “Bogle” Little, Marilyn was a beacon of warmth and kindness throughout her life. She grew up surrounded by the love of her siblings, Lorna Girad and William Little, both of whom preceded her in death. Marilyn would later meet and marry her beloved husband, Max H. Benson Sr., in 1963 in Bicknell, Indiana. Their union was one filled with love and the joy of raising a family until Max’s passing.
A graduate of the local high school, Marilyn entered the workforce as a skillful bookkeeper, displaying remarkable attention to detail and dedication. Her professional path, however, was just a small facet of her life’s accomplishments. Marilyn’s true passion lay in nurturing her family and giving back to her community. She found joy in the simplicity of family gatherings and cherished every moment spent with her loved ones.
Marilyn is survived by her devoted son, Max H. Benson Jr. (Carmen) of Vincennes, and her adoring grandchildren, Josh Swan, Jordan Switzer, Megan Schlomer (fiancé Damon), Jacob Benson, and Zachary Benson. She was an affectionate figure to her great-grandchildren, Bentley Staley, Chloe Staley, Levi Swan, Caledon Swan, Axton Swan, Winnie Swan, Evren Swan, and Haley Kohlhouse, all of whom will deeply miss her. Marilyn was also preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Melissa Benson.
Throughout her years, Marilyn was actively involved in her local community. Her commitment was notably evident through her role as the President of Tri Kappa-Vincennes, where she contributed to numerous charitable endeavors. An active member of the Bicknell Methodist Church, she provided support and compassion to many, living her faith through her actions.
Her family vividly remembers her as the loving and kind individual she was, often illuminating the lives of those around her with her generous spirit and caring nature. Marilyn’s absence will be profoundly felt in the hearts of those she touched.
