The Republican-led State Budget Committee in Indiana voted against using state funds to cover a federal SNAP funding gap, which would have helped Hoosier SNAP recipients affected by the government shutdown.
The proposal, introduced by a Democratic State Representative, called for allocating $100 million in contingency funds to the Family and Social Services Administration and providing $10 million for Indiana food banks monthly.
