Fire safety experts remind everyone to use proper fire safety precautions inside their homes during the bitterly cold week in progress.
Among the suggestions is keeping heat sources—like space heaters—at least three feet away from anything that can burn. That includes furniture, curtains, and bedding. If you have a chimney or fireplace, have them inspected and cleaned by professionals, to ensure maximum safety.
Anyone with fireplaces and/or chimneys are encouraged to have a carbon monoxide detector in their homes. Finally, if you use a generator, keep it at least 20 feet away from buildings.
