Budgetary issues are looming large for the Vincennes City Council, since this is the first year the statewide property tax cuts are figured into municipal revenue.
City officials say one area that probably won’t resurface is the need for a wheel tax. One rate increase that will be considered by the end of the year is an increase to trash collection rates. City Council president Brian Grove says that long-discussed issue will surface by the end of the year, because the City is still losing money on that collection.
The second rate increase could be to the City’s water bill. The water bill has stayed the same over the last decade; Vincennes Water Utilities officials are looking over a possible increase now. After the rate adjustment is passed by the Vincennes Utility Services Board, it will come before Council for final consideration.
