John Clinton Alton, age 80, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away on May 26, 2026. He was born on April 17, 1946, in Vincennes, Indiana, and lived a life marked by serving his country, having a family, and being a spirit that touched those around him.
John enjoyed the simple pleasures that brought people together. He loved fishing, karaoke, sports, and he was a devoted fan of the Minnesota Vikings Football Team. He also enjoyed cooking out and spending time at family gatherings, where his presence helped create the kind of moments that are remembered for years. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, the Forty and Eight, and the Moose. He valued the friendships and fellowship he found through those associations.
He is survived by his children, Rusty (Tonya) Alton, Tracy Alton, and April (Gene) Bledsoe; his step-daughter, Tracey (Woody) Wood; his eight grandchildren, Laurel, Chris, Garrett, Shalynn, Brooke, Morgan, Bethany, and Kylee; his three step-grandchildren, Tiana, Kiera, and Dayton, and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. His family was a source of great pride and joy throughout his life, and he cherished the time he spent with them. He was preceded in death by his wife, Debra Ann “Johnson” Alton; his parents, Clyde and Aline “Crawford” Alton; his grandchildren, Candace O’Dell and Michael Galligan; and his sister, Almeda Miley. Their memories remained close to his heart, and he carried their love with him throughout his life.
John will be remembered as a man who appreciated good company, good food, and good times shared with those he loved. His legacy lives on in the family he helped shape, the friendships he formed, and the many memories he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
