Timothy James Burris, known to many as Timmy, passed away on July 26, 2026, in Evansville, Indiana, at the age of 62. He was born on January 23, 1964, in Washington, Indiana, and lived a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and a steady, kind presence that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Timmy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Julia “Norrington” Burris; his children, Timothy “TJ” Cox and Charles “Ryan” Cox; his step-children, Angela Ruble (Mike), Mary Tyree, and Robert Tyree (Krystin); his grandchildren, Alexia Stone, Selena Morrow, Ruby Cox, Rylyn Stone, Ashton Tyree, Scarlett Clark, Sawyer Tyree-Wilson, Dalia Ellis, Leon Tyree, and Ember Bennett; his great-grandchild, Raeden Stone; his siblings, Sheila Fuhrman (Hilbert), Alice “Marie” Stone, George “Bub” Norrington, Teresa Townley, Charles Crowley, and Cheryl Gottschall; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James “Moppy” Burris and Ruby “Irene” (Enlow) Phillips; his brother, Donald “Gene” Dupont and his infant brother, Boy Phillips; his father-in-law, George Norrington Sr.; his brothers-in-law, Mark Norrington and Rick White.
Timmy spent his life working with his hands and taking pride in a job well done. He retired from the City of Washington Wastewater Department after years of dedicated service. He also owned Burris Drywall and previously worked at Glendale Fish and Wildlife. Timmy was a person anyone who met him would never forget. Through every chapter of his life, he was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to help wherever he was needed.
Outside of work, Timmy found joy in the simple things that made life meaningful. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and dogs with all his heart. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, working on cars in his garage, construction work, boating, and watching Andy Griffith. These interests reflected the easygoing spirit and practical nature that those close to him cherished so deeply.
Timmy was also a member of Vincennes Ave. Wesleyan Church, where his faith was an important part of his life. He will be remembered for his devotion to family, his strong character, and the many memories he created with those around him. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and strength to his loved ones, and his legacy will live on through the family he treasured and the lives he touched. His memory will remain a blessing to his family and friends, and he will be forever held in their hearts.
There will be a visitation held on Thursday, July 30, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Vincennes Ave Wesleyan Church. A service will follow at 7:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Jewel Gilley.
