A different type of agricultural presentation happened yesterday at the Knox County Fair. The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company gave the Vincennes Township Fire Department a new soybean-based tire set as part of a pilot program. The donation is one of four similar sets Goodyear is making to various groups across Indiana.
The tires themselves are made of soy-based rubber. They are considered an advantage over regular petroleum-based rubber, especially for winter driving.
With the recent dramatic rise in oil prices, ag officials also hope the soy-oil based model may be cheaper to produce.
