Gas Prices Set to Rise By End of Week, Due to Gas Tax Suspension Removal

By Tom Zimmerman Aug 4, 2026 | 5:00 AM

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas in Indiana is $3.60, according to AAA. That’s up 51 cents from a month ago and 11 cents higher than last week. Diesel prices remain steady at $5.36 a gallon.  Right now in Vincennes, gas prices are staying steady, above 3-40 a gallon.

However, prices at the pump could jump dramatically later this week.   Indiana’s gas tax holiday is set to expire at midnight on Thursday.. If Governor Mike Braun does not call a special session to extend it, drivers could see gas prices rise by as much as 60 cents per gallon.
