Spin Up Tornado Damages Small Part of Central Knox County

By Tom Zimmerman Aug 12, 2026 | 4:53 PM
A small, spin-up tornado was reported in central Knox County this  afternoon.  The weak tornado carved a path over and northeast of State Road 550, paralleling Mariah Creek toward Bruceville.  The main damage was to trees in the heavily wooded area.  Also, some county roads west of Bruceville were affected.
The small tornado was part of a larger storm that struck the area.  The storm itself caused some power outages in the Vincennes area.   At one time, Duke Energy reported around two-thousand customers without power in the Vincennes area, with another nearly 300 out in WIN Energy service locations.  Many of the WIN Energy customers had power out near Wheatland, with some also out along State Road 61 southeast of Vincennes.
Electric crews restored power quickly to affected areas.
