The Knox County Council has approved motions for two solar plants coming to Harrison Township.
The first is for the development known as the Lucky Point Solar project. That plan is for a 13-hundred acre, 140 megawatt power station along State Road 61 between Petersburg and Lucky Point Roads.
The Lucky Point project is seeking a 75 percent tax abatement. Even with that, company representatives believe the solar farm will produce eight and a half million dollars in property taxes. Plant officials plan to make a four million dollar payment to Knox County when construction starts late next year. Its scheduled completion would be near the end of 2029. The next step for the Lucky Point development is review by the Knox County Area Plan Commission at its October session. At a public hearing Tuesday evening, no one spoke against the project.
The other move is an addition to the Iona Solar field. The area will add 130 acres to its overall footprint in southern Knox County. The approval followed a public hearing where no one spoke for or against the addition.
