Philip Ray Mendenhall, 86, of Vincennes, Indiana, passed away on August 14, 2026, in Vincennes. He was born on March 17, 1940, in Washington, Indiana, to the late Bertha Burch Mendenhall and Roy Mendenhall.
Philip lived a life marked by service, hard work, and devotion to the people and places he loved. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, carrying with him the values of discipline, responsibility, and commitment throughout his life. Following his military service, he worked as a forklift operator for Gemtron, where he was known for his steady work ethic and dependable nature.
Faith was an important part of Philip’s life, and he was a member of Bethlehem General Baptist Church. He found fellowship and comfort in his church family and valued the friendships and connections he made there. He was also a member of the American Legion, where he shared in the camaraderie and respect of fellow veterans.
Philip enjoyed simple pleasures and meaningful pastimes. He especially liked shooting matches, fishing, camping, and cooking. He also took great satisfaction in helping others and was known for lending a hand at the food pantry and animal shelter. His willingness to serve in quiet, practical ways reflected the kindness and generosity that were part of his character.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Kim Eisenhut and her husband Tony and three granddogs of Greenfield, and Jeff Mendenhall of Bedford; his granddaughter , Devin Seabrook of Fishers; his sister, Carolyn Newport of Fort Wayne; and his companion, Judy Steimel of Vincennes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judi Mendenhall, and his sister, Norma Showley.
A graveside service will held on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Trevor Murray officiating. There will also be Military Graveside Honors.
