Bridge Work Continues in Downtown Vincennes

By Tom Zimmerman Aug 19, 2026 | 5:00 AM

Even in the heat of recent days, work continues full steam on the Lincoln Memorial Bridge in downtown Vincennes.  The work continues a years-long project to dismantle, clean, and reapply the façade stones for the historic structure.  George Rogers Clark National Park chief ranger Joe Herron says the main focus in recent weeks has been on the lower stones just under the bridge deck.  Herron knows despite a recent heat wave, the project’s contact workers are making headway in the heat.

The bridge work has not affected traffic as a rule so far.  However, once the project moves to the towers near the deck itself, bridge traffic could be affected during that phase of the renovation.
