The Knox County Commissioners have approved a budget request to reduce Knox County funding for the Pantheon Business Theatre from 150-thosuand to 50-thousand dollars. Commissioner Kellie Streeter moved to amend the amount back to the original 150-thousand-dollar amount. Streeter calls the full amount needed to ensure the Pantheon’s mission. As part of the discussion, Knox County Indiana Economic Development director Chris Pfaff pointed to a possible merger with the Pantheon and the K-C-I-E-D. He called the move a “discussion” at this point, but says if it did happen, it would take a while to be put in place.
Pfaff also called for restoration to the 150-thousand dollars finding. However, the move to restore died for lack of a second. That means the Commissioners’ request will be for 50-thousand dollars. Inhis comments during the session, Commissioners’ president T-J Brink admitted to some misgivings about the facility, due to its history. However, since the County owns the building, he committed to its upkeep.
The Commissioners approved the overall request 2-1, with Streeter casting the lone vote against the finalized Commissioners’ budget proposal. It will now go before the Knox County Council next month; that group will have the final say over the proposal.
