Firehouse Flats Moving Forward in Process

By Tom Zimmerman Aug 27, 2026 | 5:00 AM

The go-ahead is in place for the potential Firehouse Flats apartment complex in downtown Vincennes. The 97-unit project would be placed on the municipal parking lot between Third and Fourth Streets, parallel to Vigo Street.  The area has been designated as an EDA– or Economic Development Area, with Vincennes City Council approving on a 4-2 vote.

Anderson Developments is seeking the construction approval.  Council president Brian Grove feels the Anderson group has proven its worth—especially in another Western Indiana historic area.

Another likely part of the work is refurbishing of the former Dexter Gardiner and Sons Funeral Home property.  Grove says Anderson Development officials are close to closing on that land.

Those opposing the Firehouse Flats property are worried about parking space and delivery limitations on nearly Main Street merchants.  However, City officials feel the problems can be solved be for any potential construction gets underway.
