Late this morning, the Knox County Commissioners approved on second reading a R-1 rezoning for ten acres of land. The vote to approve was 2-0, with Commissioner Tim Ellerman the Second abstaining from the vote. The approval on second reading came after the County Area Plan Commission gave the rezoning an unfavorable recommendation on a 7-1 vote.
Prior to the vote, the Knox County Commissioners held a public session concerning a proposed 42-unit subdivision on that land on Sievers Road. Those opposed to the R-1 rezoning aren’t against new homes there, but are opposed to the number and size of the lots.
An engineer hired by the developer Sievers Road is adequate for the development. He also pointed to a demand for the smaller lots overall in today’s society. Following the vote, Commissioner Kellie Streeter called for an improvement of Sievers Road to handle the possible new addition. She also called for the improvement to be funded by tax-increment financing money as possible.
