Water Rate Issue Cleared Up by VWU General Manager

By Tom Zimmerman Sep 4, 2026 | 5:00 AM

Vincennes Water Utilities general manager Kirk Bouchie has spoken out concerning a rumored under-consideration water and sewer rate increase.  The subject has been a hot topic for most of this year across Vincennes.

Last month, Vincennes City Council approved the V-W-U to recoup over 800-thousand dollars spent as part of the Washington Avenue project.  Vincennes Water Utilities general manager Kirk Bouchie says continued Washington Avenue work hinged in part on the requested funding.  The recouping was due to Vincennes Water Utilities paying it from their cash reserves.  Bouchie also knows City Council’s approval was for that issue alone, and not a proposed bond issue or rate increase.

As part of overall comments about the issue, Bouchie doesn’t believe Vincennes City Council is in favor of any bonding or rate increases at this time.
