The Knox County Council will consider larger Knox County department budget requests as part of Day Two of their four-day session. Among the budgets up for discussion today is the Knox County Commissioners, Highway Department, and Sheriff’s Department.
Knox County Sheriff Doug Vantlin says his budget is in the millions each year—but he also has some ways to supplement it. With that added revenue though, Vantlin knows counting on federal inmate revenue is not a sure thing.
After today’s budget hearings, Council members will spend tomorrow and Thursday finalizing each budget line item for approval. After approval, it must get the approval of the state Department of Local Government Finance before it is put into place.
