The Indiana Department of Transportation is working to keep roads in the best shape they can, despite a suspension of gasoline taxes since April. That surcharge is among the top ways INDOT projects are funded.
INDOT spokesman Gary Bryan says that, and the number of gas-avoiding electric vehicles on the road, equals less money for them to use, However, Bryan realizes they still have a duty to keep roads as maintained as they can.
With higher gas prices, some people have turned to alternate travel modes—including walking or bicycling. With that, INDOT has made a concerted effort to improve sidewalks in areas where they have jurisdiction.
