Cooler Weather Brings Energy Assistance to the Fore

By Tom Zimmerman Oct 21, 2026 | 5:00 AM

A bit of cooler weather over the weekend can be a reminder of colder winter days to come, and for PACE’s Energy Assistance Program.  PACE officials are taking applications now for their assistance to eligible families in Knox, Daviess, Greene, and Sullivan counties.

PACE spokeswoman Courtney Welage reminds everyone the program’s credit goes directly to the energy supplier—and not to the applicant.  The credit normally takes just under two months to be applied to the affected energy bill.  Welage says that is why you shouldn’t wait for colder weather to prepare for colder weather expenses.

More information about those applications are available through PACE Community Action Agency.  Further, various energy application assistance events will be held in their four-county area in the weeks to come.
