Heavy early voting turnout has been matched by heavy Election Day turnout so far. 17 percent of all registered Knox County voters came out in the early vote period that ended at noon Monday. Poll worker Helen Rains is working at the vote center across from the Knox County Courthouse. She says from her perspective, an unusually large number of voters are turning out today. Despite the lines and larger than usual mid-term election numbers, Rains is glad voters have been civil while doing their civic duty.
The areas seeing the best turnout today include the former Knox County Work-Release lobby, and the voting at the Highland Woods Community Center. Polls stay open at 13 Knox County locations through six this evening.
