Starting January first, there will be a new Sheriff in town, as Dan Short will take over for Doug Vantlin. Vantlin was term-liminted from running again; the Republican Short defeated Democrat Brian Hagen with 68 percent of the vote in yesterday’s election.
Short says he will be long on patience, to get a handle on how the Department is currently being run. After an observation period, Sheriff-elect Short feels he will be ready to make the adjustments he feels are needed in the Department.
Short has been working for the County Sheriff’s Department in recent years. Previously, he had also worked in law enforcement in Stockton, California. He will prepare to take the reins of the department in January.
