By Tom Zimmerman May 25, 2026 | 3:42 AM

Robert J. Clark (Bob) 99, from Vincennes passed from this life to his heavenly home on

May 20, 2026. Robert was born on January 24, 1927, in Indianapolis, IN, and moved to

Vincennes with his parents Samuel Walter Clark and Eva Mae Kidwell-Clark.

As a teen, Bob worked as a bellhop at the Grand Hotel in Vincennes. He also worked as a

farmhand for Tom Ryan’s farm in Illinois. Bob married the love of his life, Lois J. Deckard, on

April 6, 1944. Soon after, Bob joined the Navy and was shipped overseas, serving honorably in

the South Pacific during the invasion of the Philippines as a seaman on a landing ship tank (LST-

1075) during World War II. Bob loved to tell stories of his wartime service, such as swimming

from one ship to another because the movies being shown on the other ship were better.

Another story Bob told was when his commanding officer told him not to sit up on a part of the

bridge structure, where Bob had become accustomed to sitting. Later, during combat, enemy

fire had shot away where Bob had been sitting!

After returning home, Bob and Lois settled in Evansville, IN, where Bob worked at Kent

Plastics for ten years. They later returned to Vincennes, where Bob became a proud

member of the Carpenters Union, working on the Red Skelton Bridge and other bridges in

the area.

A lifelong craftsman carpenter, Bob spent his working years in construction and during

retirement spent many years working with Habitat for Humanity building homes in Knox

County, Indiana. Bob also took the time to generously help family members with various

construction and carpentry projects.

Bob was active at both the Vincennes Foursquare Church, The Free Methodist Church and

most recently Wabash Community Church. While attending the Free Methodist Church he

served in eleven different mission trips to Haiti to help build churches and schools.

Bob is survived by three children: Sondra Twitty of Bradenton, FL, Karen Bruggeman of

Vincennes, IN, and Bradford Clark (Kim Freez) of Copemish, MI, a daughter-in-law, Janice

Clark of Vincennes, IN. Five Grandchildren: Tim (Chereyl) Twitty, Chris (Amy) Bruggeman,

Todd Bruggeman, Dwayne (Angie) Clark, Holly (Jonathan) Sterrett. Seven great-grandchildren

and one great-great granddaughter. Preceding Bob in death were his parents, his wife, Lois J.

Deckard Clark, a son Robert E. Clark, two son in-laws, Dennis Bruggeman and Bernard Twitty,

two grandchildren, Mark E. Twitty and Laura J. Clark McRoberts, two great-grandchildren and

one great-great granddaughter.
