Area Sports Roundup for Wednesday

The South Knox Lady Spartans were defeated in Sullivan sectional play by the Linter Miners 12-4.  Linton led 10=0 before the Spartans scored two in the sixth, and two in the seventh, to extend the game to the full seven innings.

Braelyn Gladish set a new single-season hits record with a first inning do uble, as she recorded her 50th hit on the season.  The Lady Spartans end the year at 16-9.  The Lady Miners face homestanding Sullivan in the final tonight. Sullivan defeated West Vigo in a back and forth game, by scoring the final two runs to defeat the Lady Vikings, 9-8.

The Rivet Patriots were defeated last night, 11-1, by Loogootee.  The Lady Lions move into the North Daviess Sectional final where they face Barr-Reeve; the Lady Vikings defeated North Daviess 9-3.

The Vincennes Lincoln Alices’ softball sectional semifinal against Jasper was rained out last night. The two teams will try again tonight at six p-m at Southridge.  The second semifinal there pits Washington against Gibson Southern.

In other softball action:

At Clay City:

Bloomfield defeats Shakamak 7-3. They face Clay City; the hometown Eels defeated WRV 11-1.

At Memorial:

The host Lady Tigers defeat Mount Vernon 2-1, while North Posey defeated Boonville 11-8.  All the softball semfinal winners are scheduled to play tonight for softball sectional championships.

 

In baseball:

The North Knox Warriors reversed a 7-5 deficit and defeat the North Central T-Birds, 9-7.  Kason Oxby got the win in relief by pitching the last two scoreless innings.  Coy Van Meter and Korbin Jones each led with two hits.

Tonight:

Rivals square off at Jasper, as Vincennes Lincoln  will play the home team, the Jasper Wildcats.  First pitch for that one is 6 pm.  In game 2, Princeton will play Gibson Southern/

One game is set at Linton, as South Knox faces Eatern Greene. That is the only game tonight, with a six p-m start.  You can hear that game on 105.7, WUZR.

Rivet faces on host Loogootee in the only game at Les Page Field.  That is set for a six p-m start on 97.7, WAOV.

Elsewhere:

At Bosse Field in Evansville:

Memorial faces Central, and Bosse plays Boonville.

One game is set for six p-m at South Spencer, as the host Rebels face Perry Central.

At Shakamak, there is one game as Cloverdale will play Clay City.
