Miles and Miles of Work Planned on Knox County Roads

By Tom Zimmerman May 28, 2026 | 5:00 AM

Knox County highway crews are busy with summer road paving and chip-sealing projects on many area roads.  The work—both in-house and state-funded—will continue through the spring and summer months.

Knox County Commissioners’ president T-J Brink says a large amount of chip-sealing is planned, due to some new equipment.  However, the current gas tax suspension may affect road work next year.  At this time, both the sales tax and excise tax on gasoline have been suspended statewide, due to rising gasoline prices.  Brink says eventually, that loss of revenue will affect the County’s road projects.

Along with that, County officials—along with the rest of Indiana’s municipal governments—are also dealing with a loss of property tax revenue. That is from a bill approved by the state to lower property taxes.
