Evansville Town Hall Discusses Tax Cuts– and Possible Municipal Service Cuts

By Tom Zimmerman Jun 4, 2026 | 5:00 AM

Evansville- area residents spoke up during a town hall meeting concerning recently passed property tax cuts.  The session was sponsored by the League of Women Voters.  The goal was to keep people informed on local issues and encourage civic engagement.

The meeting included a presentation and discussion with city and Vanderburgh county leaders. Officials said lower property tax revenue is reducing funding for services like infrastructure and law enforcement.

Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry said it has led to difficult budget decisions, including delays on a major infrastructure project due to funding uncertainty.  Terry’s misgivings mirror municipal leaders’ thoughts across the area—including Vincennes Mayor Joe Yochum.
