An Owen County deputy was shot while conducting a welfare check in a remote area near the town of Spencer on Friday.
The deputy was airlifted to a hospital in Indianapolis in stable condition, according to Indiana State Police.
The Owen County Sheriff’s Department said 58-year-old Wendell Hart started shooting at a deputy, prompting the deputy to call for backup.
Hart was eventually arrested after barricading himself in the home
