Experts Remind You– Watch Out for Weather Repairs Scammers

By Tom Zimmerman Jun 25, 2026 | 5:37 AM

Recent severe storms caused widespread damage in southwest Indiana.

Hoosiers should beware of storm-related scams.

Scammers often promise fast, affordable repairs, then disappear after a down payment or do poor work.

The Indiana Attorney General’s office advises skepticism toward anyone offering immediate cleanup or repairs without proper vetting.

Research contractors: Check references, reviews, or the Better Business Bureau before hiring.

Verify credentials: Ask for ID, licenses, and proof of bonding and insurance.

Get multiple estimates: Compare prices and work scope.

Insist on written agreements; don’t rely on verbal promises.

Avoid risky payments: Don’t use wire transfers, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or cash, and never pay in full upfront.
