Janet “Montgomery” Morgan, age 85, of Washington, Indiana, passed away on July 9, 2026, in Jasper, Indiana. She was born on November 10, 1940, in Washington, Indiana, and lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her work, and the many simple joys that brought her happiness.
Janet graduated from high school and went on to build a life centered on hard work and care for others. She worked as a cook at the Washington Correctional Facility, where she was known for her dependability and kind presence. Through her work, she served others with quiet dedication and took pride in doing her part well.
Outside of work, Janet was an artist who especially loved to paint portraits. Her creativity was one of the many gifts she shared with those around her, and her artwork reflected the patience and attention to detail that were part of her character. She also loved to cook, work in the yard, and tend to her flowers. These everyday pleasures brought her great satisfaction, and she found joy in caring for the home and surroundings she cherished. Janet was also very patriotic, and her love of country was an important part of who she was.
Family was at the center of Janet’s life. She is survived by her children, Tamra McCoy (Greg), Pamela England (Jerry), and Robin Elaine. She also leaves behind her five grandchildren, Joshua (Lori), Jacob, Austin, Destiny, and Jeffery (Jessica),; her 14 great-grandchildren, Sheylyn Griffey (Dakota), Joshton, Christopher (Jessie), Wyatt, Logan, Hannah, Lannie, Jasmine, Chloe, Adalyn, Nora, Phoenix, Audrey, Takota (Heather); her nine great-great-grandchildren, Madeline, Bryson, Lannie, Kyson, Wesley, Michael, Gracie, Enzo, and Eden. Her family brought her great pride and joy, and she treasured the many generations that followed her.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Helen “Atha” Montgomery; her grandchildren, Michael and Michelle; her two great-grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Sassy. She was also preceded in death by loved ones who helped shape the life she lived and the memories her family will continue to hold dear.
Janet will be remembered for her strong spirit, her love of family, her artistic talent, and the many ways she showed care through her actions. Her life was one of steady devotion and meaningful moments, and her memory will remain a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
There will be a visitation held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Fredrick and Son-Gill Funeral Home. A service will follow at 4:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Jim Gidcumb.
