The Knox County Council approved a final economic revitalization agreement, or E-R-A, at yesterday’s session at Vincennes City Hall. The decision came after a public session last night on a 24-hundred acre, 1.2 plus billion-dollar solar plant in Harrison Township. The plant will be owned by Iona Solar on acreage in Harrison and Johnson townships.
Plant backers believe the solar facility will save county property tax owners 400 million dollars in overall payments. It was also called a “windfall” of funding for Knox County, various public safety crews in Harrison and Johnson townships, and the South Knox School Corporation. It was also called a great inflow of money, to counter a set of property tax cuts passed in 2025, and impacting in 2027. Further, the project will add another million dollars a year to the County as an economic payments.
During a public hearing, no members of the public spoke for or against the project. The issue will now go before the Knox County Commissioners for its consideration in August.
