The newest Vincennes park—Minooteeni Park—was dedicated this week for the community’s use. Minooteeni Park is located on the north end of the Vincennes Riverwalk, near First and Hart Streets.
One of those involved in the park’s creation was Fernando Lozano, of the Wabash Valley Progressives. Lozano says the whole idea came from a desire to preserve the Native American culture of the area. The group also expressed thanks to the community for their support of the park. To that end, Lozano believes it was important to get local vendors involved in the process.
In the ceremony this week, two Native American speakers addressed the crowd. Both were representatives of the peoples who inhabited the area when the first settlers arrived at Vincennes.
