Vincennes Mayor Joe Yochum is favored to become the replacement candidate for the Democrat race in State Senate District 39. The replacement for withdrawn candidate Joseph Baughman will be officially named Thursday night in a district-wide Democrat caucus at the Washington City Council chambers. Mayor Yochum is widely expected to be named in Baughman’s place.
Mayor Yochum says his major issue is new laws causing drastic cuts to municipal revenue statewide. Yochum also reminds everyone if he wins in November, he would have to vacate his last year as Vincennes Mayor.
The last Democrat State Senator for District 39 was Vincennes resident Morrie Doll. He left office in 1994, when he was defeated in the election that year by Shelburn’s John Waterman.
