R. Ellen Salmon, age 68, of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away on July 25, 2026. She was born on February 15, 1958, in Washington, Indiana, and lived a life marked by kindness, devotion, and an uplifting spirit.
Ellen graduated from high school and went on to dedicate much of her working life to caring for others. She worked as a CNA for many different places, where her gentle nature and loving spirit made a lasting difference in the lives of those she served. She also worked at the cord factory, where she was known for her work ethic and steady presence. In every role she held, Ellen brought compassion, patience, and a sincere desire to help others.
Outside of work, Ellen found joy in simple and meaningful things. She loved to read, knit, and crochet, and she took great comfort in watching her western shows. Her greatest happiness came from her family, especially her sons and grandchildren, whom she loved deeply. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and relative, and she treasured the time she spent with those closest to her. Ellen’s life was defined by the love she gave so freely and the care she showed to everyone around her.
She is survived by her children, Jonathon Holt and Ralph Haines III (Karen); her granddaughter, Natashia Freeman (Mason); her several great-grandchildren; her siblings, Ray Dean Salmon, Bonnie Dove-Salmon, and Sandra Salmon; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Betty “Butler” Salmon; her son, Steven R. Holt; and her brother, Delbert Salmon.
Those who knew Ellen will remember her as selfless, creative, and loving. She had a generous heart and a thoughtful spirit, and she touched the lives of many with her warmth and sincerity. Her family and friends will forever cherish the memories they shared with her and the example she set through her life. Ellen’s family takes comfort in knowing that her life was one of purpose and compassion, and that her memory will continue to bring them strength in the journey ahead.
