Budget deliberations are starting now for Vincennes City department heads. The various City departments are working with Mayor Joe Yochum toward setting their 2027 calendar year budgets.
Even though budget approvals happen later in the fall, Mayor Yochum knows the process starts months in advance. One major budget piece is “big-ticket” items. The Mayor says long-term planning helps keep those items in line.
This year has been a tougher budget cycle for municipal governments, due to a loss of revenue from recently-approved property tax cuts. Property taxes are one of the main funding avenues for municipal governments, as well as various public school corporations.
