David Bliss Oliver, age 84, of Washington, Indiana, passed away on August 23, 2026. He was born on September 20, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, and lived a life marked by service, devotion to family, and a warm sense of humor that touched everyone who knew him.
David graduated from high school and later answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Navy. He was very proud of his military service and carried that pride throughout his life as a 20-year veteran. He especially enjoyed the traveling he experienced while serving on a ship and valued the discipline, camaraderie, and purpose that came with his time in the Navy.
On October 13, 1973, David married the love of his life, Alice “Trent” Oliver. Their marriage was a lasting partnership built on love, loyalty, and shared memories. Alice preceded him in death, and David carried her memory with him always. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Marjorie “Bliss” Oliver, and his sister, Roberta.
Following his military service, David worked at Crane, where he was employed as a Maintenance Branch Technical Specialist until his retirement. He took great pride in his work and was respected for his steady dedication and strong work ethic. Those who knew him remember him as dependable, kind, and always willing to lend a hand when needed.
David had many interests that brought him joy throughout his life. He loved NASCAR and all forms of racing, and he enjoyed the sport’s excitement and energy. He was also a fan of science fiction movies and Star Trek. Above all, David loved making people smile. He had a gift for telling jokes and brightening the day of those around him, and his sense of humor was one of the many things that made him so memorable.
He is survived by his children, Sara Davidson (Nick) and Jennifer Romans (Tim); his four grandchildren, Emmett Davidson, Nathaniel Oliver, Willow Romans, and Mason Romans; his cousin, Russell Bliss; and his nieces, Sandy, Anita, and Debi.
David will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, proud veteran, and faithful friend. His life was one of service, hard work, and laughter, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Per his request, David will be cremated, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Odon and Washington VFW Posts.
