Bridge Planned Over Flooded Waters on SR 257

By Tom Zimmerman Aug 28, 2026 | 5:00 AM

The Indiana Department of Transportation is relatively close to fixing a flooding problem on State Road 257 at the White River.  The work is needed, since that area on the Pike/Daviess County line is closed to flooding an average of 20 days per year.

INDOT spokesman Gary Bryan says the solution is a bridge over flooded waters.  Bryan hopes the work there can begin as early as the 2027 construction season.

In preparation, INDOT crews heard from affected residents in Pike and Daviess Counties during a recent hearing in Otwell.  More information on the actual project is expected as the work date draws nearer.
