Vincennes City Council met for two and a half hours last night to discuss ways to bring the City budget in balance for 2027. The session was held at Vincennes City Hall.
Among the issues Council members, and Vincennes Mayor Joe Yochum, discussed was trash collection. As part of the issue was privatization versus City control. Council members also discussed if the City keeps the issue in their own hands, the issue of a flat fee versus the current sticker system.
Councilman Ryan Lough has studied the issue in recent months. Lough is a backer of privatizing the service. Mayor Yochum has been a longtime opponent of privatizing the trash service. He gives one reason why—what happens when residents don’t pay their trash bill.
Among the shortfalls the City needs to adjust right now is a 150-thousand dollar deficit in the City Sanitation Department account.
