Two North Knox Solar Tax Abatement Requests Get Knox County Council Approval

The Knox County Council has started their part of the process for two proposed solar projects in the North Knox area.

The first is a declaratory resolution for a solar plant near the Duke Energy power plat at Edwardsport.  That resolution is for an economic development agreement– or E-D-A– for the project.  E-D-P is seeking a 75 percent tax abatement on that project.

The other request is for a 160-megawattsolar plant just east of North Knox High School, between Bicknell and Freelandville.  The Unser/Samsung group is looking for that approval.  That project is still seeking E-D-A status at this time, and also wants a 75 percent tax abatement.

Even though the two projects are separate, if they are approved, they seek a 2029 to 2030 time frame for construction.  Council members approved both motions unanimously.  The next step for both projects is a review by the Knox County Area Plan Commission in November.
