Heavy early voting turnout was matched by heavy Election Day turnout. Overall, over 43 percent of eligible Knox County voters made their way to the polls for this election cycle.
Poll worker Helen Rains worked at the vote center across from the Knox County Courthouse. She says from her perspective, the number of voters for this midterm election was much larger than usual. Despite longer lines and the larger than usual mid-term election numbers, Rains knows voters were civil while doing their civic duty.
The vote centers with the best turnouts included the former Knox County Work-Release lobby, and the voting at the Highland Woods Community Center. However, overall, all 13 of Knox County’s vote centers were busy throughout Election Day.
